According to the 5¡ë population sampling survey in 2009, the population of long-term residents reached 8.100 million, up by 1.7% over the previous. Of that 5.6295 million in urban district, accounted for 69.5% of long-term residents. The city's population density is 488 people per square km; by the end of 2009, the total number of registered households was 2,152,800, and registered population was 6.8338 million. In the registered people, the agriculture population amounted to 3.289 million and the non-agriculture population reached 3.5448 million. The birth rate of population was 9.18 per mill, the death rate was 5.75 per mill and the natural growth rate was 3.42 per mill.

The population continues to extend life expectancy. In year 2009, the average life expectancy was 80.26 year old of residents in Hangzhou (77.98 years of men and 82.76 years of women), which was equivalent to the level of developed countries ahead of time. |
