A sign developed from an old Chinese character, "Hang", becomes the city emblem of Hangzhou. In the ancient, the meaning of "Hang" is "ark" or "ship". On the other hand, "Hang" can be used as "sailing", which reflects the name of Hangzhou coming from the historical quotation "Dayu Abandoning Boat and Boarding Ship". The emblem embodies details of Hangzhou as the famous history and culture city, and also symbolizes today Hangzhou sailing to advance. The city emblem of Hangzhou skillfully melts with many elements, such as boat, city wall, architect, garden and arch bridge etc. It likes a boat, on which we help each other; likes a home, in which we enjoy together; and likes a city, which is the "City of Quality Life" we share and build one another.
