Environment Protection
The strength of environment protection and pollution management continued to be reinforced. In 2008, the investment of environment protection of financial revenue reached 0.746 billion yuan, up by 43.7percent. The amount of the total emission of industrial chemical oxygen demand (COD) and that of the sulfur dioxide discharge was dropped 3.8 percent and 18.67 percent compared with the previous year respectively. 98 percent of the sulfur dioxide discharge in the industrial emissions and 82 percent of the industrial wastewater comprehensive discharge reached the standard respectively. The centralized disposal rate of city sewage rose from 80.7 percent of the previous year to 83.2 percent. The proportion of supervised break-face water quality above third level was 57.1 percent. The number of days which air quality in the urban area reached Ⅱ -level or above Ⅱ -level were 301. By the end of 2008, garden green area of Hangzhou urban district reached 13,000 hectares, and parks per capita in the urban area reached 13.9 square meters. The green coverage rate of built-up area was 38.6 percent.
