1. Industrial Developmen

With HangzhouˇŻs accelerating the adjustment of industrial  economic structure,  the  industrial economy was optimized.  The added value of industry was 214.02 billion yuan, up by  9.0 percent over  the previous year. The sales value and  the  output value of  industrial enterprises above designated sizes  broke  through  the  threshold of 1,000 billion yuan, reaching  1,096.886 billion yuan and 1,080.266 billion yuan. The  profit and  tax provided by  the  industrial enterprises above  designated sizes stood at 73.884 billion yuan and of which  the profit was 40.873 billion yuan, up by 3.2 percent and  0.3 percent all higher  than  the  increase of  the output and  the sales. The compound  index of economic effi ciency was  260.05, up by 30.96 compared with the last year.

2. High Technology Industry

High  technology  indust ry  developed with  high  ef ficiency. The profit  and  tax provided by high-tech  industry  enterprises  above designated  sizes  stood  at  11.042 billion yuan, up by 25.5 percent, which brought  Hangzhou  industry profi t and  tax  increase of 3.1percent  points. The profit was 7.826 billion  yuan, up by 28.3  percent, higher by 28 percentage points  than  the average  of the industry in urban areas.

3.Technological Innovation
Hangzhou enhanced the strength in blazing new trails in  technology. In 2008, the capital for science and technology  rose by 52.6 percent. There were 393 high-tech enterprise  centers,  including 13 state-level and 105 provincial-level.  The ratio of the new product reached 14.81 percent, up by  0.48 percentage points compared with.

4.Saving Energy Consumption
The  result of energy-saving was signifi cantly.  In 2008,  energy consumption per GDP of total enterprises downed  by  5.81  percent  over  the  previous  year.  The  energy  consumption of  the  industrial  added  value of  above  designated  size downed over 7.88 percent. The electric  consumption of per GDP and all  industrial added value  downed 6.07 percent and 6.19 percent respectively.

5. Brand Strategy

Hangzhou  executed  actively  the  strategy of brand development. A series of renowned products and famous brands enjoying relatively greater popularity and infl uence in China were formed. "Qianchao" knob was fi rst awarded the  "world  famous brand products  in China"  in Zhejiang province. By the end of 2008, there were 52 brand-name products in China and 76 China's well-known trademarks.
