1.Economic Development

In 2008, the uncommon year in which Hangzhou confronted the challenge of world fi nancial crisis actively by the guidance of scientific development viewpoint, the stable and quick momentum continued in the city¡¯s economic and society. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Hangzhou was 478.116 billion yuan£¬up by 11.0 percent at comparable price over the previous year, with an annual economic growth rate of over 10 percent maintained for consecutive 18 years. The GDP per capita calculated by domicile residents was 70,832 yuan, up by 10.1 percent; and the GDP per capita calculated by permanent residents was 60,414 yuan, up by 9.4 percent, or 10,199 US dollars and 8,699 US dollars at the 2008 average exchange rate published by the country respectively.

 

2.Financial Revenue
Hangzhou has continued to keep an increase in its financial income. In 2008, the total fiscal revenue of 91.055 billion yuan was received, up 15.5 percent over the previous year, and the city¡¯s local fiscal revenue reached 45.535 billion yuan, up by 16.3 percent; the local expenditures totaled 41.967 billion yuan, up by 25.0 percent.

3.City Competitiveness
In 2008, it s comprehensive economic strength continued to rank No. 2 ( after Guangzhou) among all provincial capitals, No. 3 (after Guangzhou and Shenzhen) among all sub-provincial cities and No. 8 of all large- and medium-sized cities of China. It ranked No.1 in China investment environment; and it also ranked No.1 for consecutive 5 years in ¡°China Mainland Best Commercial City Ranking; it listed NO.1 of 2008 Happiest Cities of China (Mainland), according to Xinhua News Agency Outlook Weekly; the comprehensive scores of people¡¯s living quality ranked the first in Zhejiang Province.

4.Hangzhou Metropolitan Region
Hangzhou urban economic circle accelerates the integration process. In 2008, Hangzhou urban economic circle launched 23 regional cooperation project s. Hangzhou health intranet of suburban area expand up to 9 districts, countries and cities such as Xiaoshan, Yuhang, Fuyang, Lin¡¯an, Chun¡¯an, Jiande, Tonglu, Deqing and Anji, and 29 medical institutions; opened the fi rst domestic city bus lines which goes from Deqing to Hangzhou. Hangzhou main district and Xiaoshan, Yuhang witness implementation of public transport integration; Since October 1, Hangzhou main district and Xiaoshan, Yuhang city have shared the same fi xed telephone treatment; Hangzhou set up tourist information service platform, promote tourist traffic signs marking the Yangtze River Delta system, as well as promoting the Expo trip.

5.Civilian Economy
The civilian Economy has become the main force of economic development in Hangzhou. The annual tax revenue was 34.407 billion yuan, accounting for 37.8 percent of the city's financial revenue. The civilian economic accounted for more than 50 percent in commerce, industry and investment sectors. Private enterprises by the provincial-level and above up to 189 brand-name products, accounting for all the provincial level and above a few brand names of 59.6%. There are 73 civilian enterprises among the top 500 in China, such as Wahaha, chuanhua. Hangzhou has become the team champion for six consecutive years of the top 500 civilian enterprises.
